ZHANG YI-Chief Conductor of the National Ballet of China with Irene ZHU-President of EurAsia Forum

Zhang Yi, one of today’s influential young conductors in China, served as the Music Director and Chief Conductor of the National Ballet of China.

Learning to play the violin at the age of 5, Zhang Yi was recommended to Central Conservatory of Music in 1990. He learned conducting under the guidance of Professor Xu Xin and Professor Ji Ruikai. From 2000 to 2003, he pursued further education in the Saarbrücken HFM: Hochschule für Musik Saar, where he finished the graduate course for conducting with Prof. Max Pommer, a renowned German conductor.

During the past two decades, he has cooperated with lots of orchestras home and abroad, including China National Symphony Orchestra, China Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Symphonitta Orchestra, Macau Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and Württemberg Chamber Orchestra etc.

In his performances around European, American, Australian and Asian countries, Zhang Yi collaborated with numerous artists such as Emmanuel Pahud, Wenzel Fuchs, Renaud Capucon, Jean-YvesThibaudet, Myung Wha Chung, Sarah Chang, Lang Lang, Chen Sa, Ning Feng and Qin Liwei etc. Aiming to make the Chinese music and musicians known worldwide, Zhang Yi has released many recordings. Zhang Yi has conducted in many arts festivals and major theaters internationally. In 2015, Zhang Yi was invited to lead the National Ballet of China Symphony Orchestra to Beaulieu Theater, Saint-Pres Theater and the Palace of Nations in Switzerland.
